Presence is an independent 501 (c) 3 non-profit print poetry journal, affiliated with the Department of English at Caldwell University.  All donors will receive a letter from Presence verifying their tax-deductible donation.

Now in our sixth year of production, we reflect upon Presence Journal’s contribution to the field of contemporary poetry.  We have worked to create a distinctive publication that gives space to both poetry and poetry book reviews informed by the Catholic faith.  Presence encourages writers to engage with the world as instruments of God’s grace, and we work to support this vision by publishing quality poetry, hosting readings at both Catholic and secular venues, and fostering relationships with a variety of arts organizations.  We hope you will be a part of our mission to carry on the Church’s long-standing tradition of valuing the arts as a way of coming to know and love God and each other. 

Increased donations would enable Presence to offer more services to poets and artists, in addition to maintaining our annual print issue.

Growth in future years might include:

  • visual art inside each issue, rather than simply cover art

  • an annual poetry contest judged by a well-known poet and accompanied by an honorarium for the judge and monetary prizes for the winning poets

  • a summer writers’ retreat that would honor poets by subsidizing the cost of their accommodations

  • maintaining a relatively low purchase price for copies of the print issue
